It’s only 10.30 am and I’ve accomplished quite a lot so far, and one of those tasks has been my new stretching routine.
I’ve always prided myself in my ability to dress (myself) without sitting down or holding on to something. I suppose it’s foolhardy in some respects since one of these days I am sure to topple over and great will be the crash of Fiacre, with attendant injury which will irritate me no end.
Of late, however, I have noted a diminution in this gentlemanly skill, and on a few occasions I have had to succumb to the indignity of sitting on the bed to put on socks.
I know there are many much younger men that I who sit to accomplish the putting on of socks and everything else that goes on to lend modesty to the lower half of the body, but I’m not one of them.
The cause of the problem, I deduced, was excess midriff baggage and a stiffening of my normally mobile joints and bendy bits.
So for a few weeks I’ve followed a program of gentle stretching as prescribed by “Ian” on the internet, and a more careful eating regime. You know what? 4 kilos of me has vanished and I can once more put on socks while standing without toppling over.
Wine has become a special treat rather than a daily practice and there is no snacking between meals. My beverage of choice is Cretan mountain tea while coffee is limited to one cup at breakfast.
What surprises me is my self discipline, and seeing the progress really spurs me on to keep up the good work.
Do you get discouraged when trying to keep your body working for you?

Be careful dressing yourself without sitting down, if you fall you get hurt.
I have also lost 4 Kg during the past 3 weeks, I do not intend to put those kilos back, I move faster and I can still put on socks without sitting, but I stay near the bed "just in case".

Hey, Anna. I’m impressed you can don a sock from a standing position. I always sit, and think I would likely topple if I tried stood up. You must be fitter than moi.

Just now
@Orson_Kart - I still can, but once in a while I lose the balance and fell sitting on the bed.

I have always sat on the edge of the bed, or a chair, to put on my socks. I certainly won’t be trying to kick the habit of a lifetime and risking injury for a sock!
