Had a long weekend of rains and bad weather

Last weekend was supposed to be my birthday, but I decided not to celebrate and just stayed at home after our area was hit by monsoon rains. Floods were everywhere, though luckily my place was spared. During the heavy downpour with typhoon-like winds, some nearby trees were uprooted and hit electric posts, affecting the power supply in the area. Fortunately, only a few houses in the neighborhood were impacted. Yesterday, the rains kept pouring, leading to class suspensions and a work-from-home setup. Today, my wife went to work but is a bit worried about commuting with the occasional rain. I think the rain has eased up a lot compared to before; I even saw the sun earlier, though it rained again after a while. Hopefully, the weather will improve in the coming days, as long as no tropical depression develops in the Pacific Ocean.

I hear the word “monsoon” and I immediately tend to worry. I don’t know how you guys deal with such intense flooding that seems to happen so often.
I hope your birthday was a good one though. And hopefully, your wife has no problem getting home from work.

We experience these annually, so we’re used to them happening year after year. However, each episode is different, as some years the monsoons come and go without any issues. This time, though, the rains have been more intense, as typhoons forming in the western Pacific seem to draw the monsoon rains across our land. This leaves our island teeming with water, in stark contrast to our dry summers when water is scarce. Our weather swings between extremes of dry and wet seasons.
