Bike Leans - Humpty Dumpty

You know how when people are reminiscing about the past, they often call it something like “using the Wayback Machine” or something like that. I’m not doing that. I am, however, visiting my past with a bike lean from around 2012 or so. It’s my old Trek Fuel Ex-7 mountain bike, leaning with one Humpty Dumpty. H.D., as he’s called, was originally part of Colorado Springs’ ongoing award-winning Art on the Streets Public Art program. Sculptures from worldwide artists are displayed on the streets of the Downtown area for a year. It’s for sale, and if it doesn’t sell, it’s replaced the next year. It’s a constantly-changing art tour. He used to sit outside of a Green Bay Packers-themed bar, but somewhere along the way, H.D. was purchased by the city and now sits in his permanent location outside of the Pikes Peak Center, a city music venue. H.D. proved so popular that there are now, thanks to the Norwood Development Group, about 23 various Humpty’s around Colorado Springs, most of them Downtown at Norwood buildings. The sculptures are made in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by artist Kimber Fiebiger. She dreams up an egg-pun name for each Humpty before starting to sculpt, so in Colorado Springs you’ll find “Robin Egg,” (H.D. as Batman’s sidekick,) “Caviar,” “Free Range Egg,” etc. The sculptures play guitar, or chess, or read books, or (this being Colorado) ski. When I lived in Colorado Springs, I loved walking around checking out the art. H.D. was my favorite. I made sure to say hello to him many times after leaving the bar. He never said “hello” back - he just sat there with that same smarmy look on his face, but he was my favorite anyway! Link is to an eight-minute video tour of the many Colorado Springs Humpty Eggs:
