I have a most logorrheic neighbour. Oh yes. She never seems to stop to draw breath from early morning till late at night, just jabbers on and on all day without actually saying anything. I’ve never seen her because she lives in the house behind ours and a high hedge separates us, but I hear everything that goes on in her house. Not only does she speak loudly, but she always keeps her back door open and all the windows, and anytime there is a lull she has the radio pointed at me playing silly blether talk shows. I even know what she cooks for dinner partly because of her running commentary (she talks baby talk to the dog if there are no humans at home) but I can smell it wafting across the 50 metres between our houses. I hear her phone ringing, and she seems always to have it on speaker so I hear each full conversation. I’m exhausted listening to it all when I’m in the garden. I can hardly call round and ask her to pipe down. Can I? And she’s probably a very pleasant woman, but sharing a propinquitous living arrangement with her is never going to result in friendship.
