It’s 4 am and I’ve woken to the welcome music of sweet, refreshing rain falling on the garden. It carries through the open window on a current of cool air bringing with it the earthy scents it has awakened as it sinks into the dry, summer earth. My senses of hearing, taste, smell and touch are all excited, but so to is my sense of sight as my eyes grow accustomed to the dark, and I can see in my imagination the reds and pinks of geraniums nodding in the light breeze.
Soon the rain will pass, the sun will rise and the wetness will vanish into vapour. Sunday will declare itself to be present in its quietness and distant church bells and the smell of coffee will invade the house. Heavier, hotter rain will fall from the shower head and steam will carry the scent of soap out of the open bathroom window to offend the birds.
Are your windows more often open or closed?

@ambiepam Do I still go to Church? Now there’s a question and a half that’s hard to answer. When I retired as a pastor I moved to a new town and started going to a local Church but I didn’t tell them I was a minister - I just wanted to be retired and worship. But that meant that I couldn’t really get to know folk because the natural thing they asked was “What did you work at?” So I attend but keep my distance and feel guilty about it. Church is a difficult thing for people who don’t socialise much. Church is just difficult. Thankfully God’s not.

I"m afraid are most often closed. Sometimes we have a door open but not too often.
