It’s not every day you get a bonus song in the countdown, but then again, this isn’t just any day. Forty nine years ago today the King of Rock and Roll left us. In honor, here’s a bonus song from The Big E referencing the Big Easy.
Song of the Shrimp - Elvis Presley
This didn’t make the “regular” list or top ten for one simple reason: it’s a pretty hokey song. Not every song from that movie (Girls! Girls! Girls!) fit that bill (I love “The Walls Have Ears” and “Because of Love”), but that’s not my favorite Elvis soundtrack.
Not every Elvis song was great, and some of them are downright unlistenable (cough-cough “Yoga Is As Yoga Does”). But it’s cute and whimsical enough…and it mentions New Orleans, so I can use it to remember Elvis and celebrate the wide variety of music he gave us.

@FourWalls That one seems to pop up every year! Do you remember what you were doing and where you were? I was at my apartment chilling. I didn't do anything that day but play Elvis tunes for the rest of the day. And I cried some too. Such a loss. An Elvis concert in Baton Rouge was my very first concert!
