Hottest summer on record in England & Wales! WE have had five separate spells where the temperature has passed 30 degrees. It's passed 80f many times this summer. It's passed 90 degrees a few times, It's passed 100 degrees twice. It has not rained for two months in my town. This is England, the green and pleasant land. Its dry and arid and 1300 rural fires plus this summer alone in the U.K as fields burn, scrub burns, moorland burns. It's very unusual. It got so bad that the government used the National Alert system to instruct people to not use naked flames during camping, fireworks you name it. Being typical British we started to moan at the government using the alert for what many felt was not an emergency. It's supposed to be used for impending terror attacks, dangerous weather or nuclear war etc... Not to warn you not to use your BBQ, which many felt seemed trivlal. The National ALert system makes your phone ring a loud noise with a text telling you why. Feminist made good points that it may locate a second emergency phone in the house for women being abused by their partners. As its rarely used, people were reaching for their phones on the motorway and swerving around not expecting it, or the sudden sound making people freak out. I didn't know what it was at first and it sounds like that alarm when you leave the cordless phone off the hook. Quite a few people were annoyed by the use of the alert and have now turned off their phones ability to receive it , which is rather silly.
