New Job Incoming

This is what I am thinking if I don’t like it I can always quit before the probationary period finishes. I am enrolled in a dental course though so I am just waiting to hear from the school if this will be ideal for me. Cause I need dental nurse employment whilst on the course. I am very anxious and did not sleep well last night I feel like I need more time to think about the contract as I wanted to do part time only the job requires me to do 3 person job of a receptionist, cleaner, and, nurse for a minimum wage. I did the unpaid trial last Saturday and now it is Monday and I am still very tired from it. I don’t know if it will be sustainable. The career advisor from the dental school will give me a call in a bit and hopefully can give me my options and pathway. During my drop in session online she mentioned she does not recommend this work place to her trainees due to the heavy task list apparently many students burn out and leave in 1-2 months time. Which reinforced my fear.

@flapiz - You can take your time and finish your dental course. You will have more job opportunities later. Oh my, they are asking you to do a lot for a minimum wage. I hope they were more demanding because it was a trial. I understand why you feel anxious and are not sure that you want to get this job. You have worked in the past and have a good experience as a nurse, I think you should be able to find a better job.

@LadyDuck It does not help that they sent me the contract late last night on Sunday and want me to start working tomorrow Tuesday already. I need a job placement for the dental course but this does not even give me an ample time to peruse the contract. I feel like if I took this job I won’t even have time for school and for life in general.

@AmbiePam It did not help that when I dropped in the Zoom session today the Career advisor told me she does not recommend this practice as she had a lot of students quitting after 1-2 months due to burn out. I asked her if she could call me today so I can explore my options and to see if taking this contract and quitting within probationary period may or may not affect my dental schooling.

I am desperate for a job but I found myself not being able to sleep last night thinking about the job offer. First, because I was really smashed last Saturday like I am still recovering now and it’s Monday. I also feel like my demands were not met and instead of the agreed 4 days a week they want me to do five with the optional 6 if there is a shortage on Wednesdays. I get one Saturday off a month. I feel like if I do part time I will give so much of myself and won’t have anything left for my husband and dog. I don’t want to turn away blessings but my gut is telling me something else. And now I am waiting for advise from the dental school careers advisor.

Ahaha thank you for that. I do worry about the racism here sometimes. I am happy to hear people like you tell me otherwise.

@Ineeddentures The other day someone got harassed here in our area and the shops did not help and call the police. And on the comments were very racist comments targeted and generalising foreign shop keepers. It was really disturbing to see people openly being racially discriminating like that. I heard many good things about Scotland! And would love to visit it someday. I think relocating is a far shot cause I am married and my husband’s job is very London based. If I was single that would’ve been a good option for me. I am praying to get my citizenship soon so I can at least vote against reform.

@flapiz Sadly the racist right wing have influenced people with the twisted rhetoric they use Blaming everything on immigration The funny thing is that they seem to forget that we aren't a white nation anymore London Birmingham.and.Manchester are not white majority cities anymore 1 in 6 people in the UK are now non white. That's why Reform will never win power We like immigration up here in Scotland We need it. You could do a lot worse than move up here where your skills would be welcome

At my age I know a red flag when I see one. And yes if a company does not take care of their employees of course they won’t stay. I am planning to renegotiate the contract as they offered me a full time position but with what I experienced last Saturday I feel like a burn out is possible. I was really hoping for a part time position as I am studying dental nursing, taking care of my husband, and hopefully working for a bit of money, I dropped in at an online career session with the dental school and the instructor told me she does not recommend this clinic to her students as the turn over is really bad they leave after 1-2 months from burn out. She said she lost a lot of students from there. At my age I want to prioritise my husband and I want to be present and supportive so I am worried that if I burnt out work I would not be able to focus on family.

@Wrexxo Yes I shall keep my eyes open. Just waiting for my adviser call so I can see if I should turn down the offer or give it a go. I need the job placement for a course and I wanted to know If I quit midway will it impact my course.

@flapiz that's definitely not a good place to work. Well, I'm sure you have an eye out for other clinics too..and yes, you need to hold on to your priorities and anything that will lead to burnout should be avoided

@flapiz It can definitely be hard in this situation. I can understand having hesitations, or mixed emotions, and such.

Thanks Dominique I am having hesitations in taking it. I barely slept last night just thinking about it.

Hi Judy I am still mulling it over as yes I had the same plan but the contract did say that sometimes if it’s really busy breaks are omitted and paid instead. But I need the glucose. I have a metabolic disorder and I feel like it will make it worst. I am trying to hype myself up and be positive but I definitely don’t want to work there full time. I keep saying I can do part time and it was verbally agreed last Saturday but the contract came back as full time.
