Blue Poles is coming to Western Australia

Back in 1973, the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) purchased a painting by American Jackson Pollock entitled ‘Blue Poles’ (also known as No. 11, 1952). This was very controversial at the time as it cost $1.3 million. Fifty years later, it was valued at $500 million.
It’s classified as an abstract impressionist work but does absolutely nothing for me. It’s cited as being one of the most important works of the 20th century and hasn’t been lent out for two decades. I bet they’ll be some tight security around it.
The NGA hasn’t said how the painting will be moved. They believe it will bring a lot of tourism to the Perth Art Gallery. We shall see I guess. It will be on display from April 2027 to September while the NGA undergoes capital works including a new roof.
There are images of Blue Poles on the web but I wasn’t sure I should put one here so you have a 'blue' landscape instead.

I’m with you, I don’t “get” abstract art. We studied Jackson Pollack in art appreciation class (he “threw” paint onto the canvases for lack of a better description), and I just didn’t understand it.
That photo, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing. I’d rather look at that all day!

I am really amazed with the works of others that was valued that way, but I believe it is God who bless them with such favor.

@JudyEv That’s a handsome return on the investment- I could live with that, but not with the painting on my wall. Your picture is a lot more acceptable. If it were mine I’d cash in the investment, keep $1million for myself and release the other $499 million into the world … I think.
