I Got a Job!

I had a video call interview with a company yesterday, and I thought it went pretty well, but he said they were interviewing several candidates, so I know that's a sign that I needed to manage my expectations. He said they would get back to me with an update about the same time next week.
Imagine my surprise when the recruiter called me TODAY to let me know they wanted me to start work on Monday!
So, it's just a temporary job that is supposed to run about 3-4 weeks, but my last temporary assignment was supposed to be for one day, and I ended up working there for eight years. So -- you never know!
Even if it does only last a few weeks, it will be extremely helpful financially. I was just about to tell my family that I wouldn't be able to come up for the reunion on Labor Day weekend, but now I will be able to see them!

I hope it does. I'll admit I was kind of growing fond of having the days to myself, but I'd prefer to have less financial worry.

Good for you...I wish son could get a better job. He is still at Amazon, which he likes because it is close by..but not exactly some place he wants to be long term. However, I don't know..I guess as long as he is happy that is the important thing.

Yes, that is important. He might be able to try out something else part time to see if he likes it.

Yes, I'm actually in a place where I'm okay with it either way. I told the recruiter I'm fine with temp or permanent, so they can send me out to another place if this one doesn't last beyond the initial period.

Definitely! I'm okay with it. It might become full-time or it might become a situation where they call me to come back from time to time.

Yes, several of mine, too - although sometimes I show up for a two-week assignment and get it done in three days, lol

That's a very nice to hear. I can't work hard now and therefore have to live on my pension. I teach students at home too.

@aninditasen right, but some jobs don't help people. You don't have to be doing it for free to help people.

This is really good news! ??
The interesting part is that you had already prepared yourself not to expect too much after hearing they were interviewing several candidates. Then, instead of waiting until next week, the recruiter called the very next day and offered you the job!
And there are several positives here:
Immediate income — even 3–4 weeks can make a meaningful financial difference.
A chance to prove yourself — temporary jobs can sometimes turn into something much longer, just like your previous “one-day” assignment that became eight years.
Your Labor Day weekend reunion is back on — that's an especially nice bonus. ??
Most importantly, you got a yes when you weren't expecting one.
Sometimes a temporary opportunity is exactly what you need to get momentum back. And who knows—this could be another “three weeks that turns into years” situation.
Congratulations! ?? You deserve to enjoy this one.
