Happy September! As the meme says, there, summer’s over. I hope you pumpkin spice latte freaks are happy now. While our weather doesn’t seem to care that this is the first day of the meteorological season (we have a heat advisory for most of the rest of the week), I’ll think cool thoughts and kick off our musical trip to New York with this song. Another Rainy Day in New York City - Chicago Yeah, I know, it’s confusing that we have a band named after a city singing a song about a completely different city. You’ve probably never heard this song, and that’s a crying shame. I loved this song when it came out. It was moving up the charts and set to be another big hit. Then…the record label released the next single too quickly. That song was “If You Leave Me Now,” which became Chicago’s first #1 song. Everyone flocked to that and left this one in the dust. This has a different feel than a lot of Chicago songs, which is why it was so enjoyable. The lyrics are typical of anyone who travels for a living, stuck inside in a big city with nowhere to go because it’s raining. Yeah, maybe rainy days get you down (thank you, Karen and Richard Carpenter), but this song will definitely make you feel better. Another Rainy Day in New York City Written by Robert Lamm Recorded by Chicago From Chicago X, 1976 NYC LYRICS: title High up in an overpriced hotel:

I thought so too. I was disappointed that it didn’t get a chance to become a hit.

@FourWalls It’s going on my playlist. My sister loves Chicago. She saw them in concert once; back when she couldn’t really afford to do that.

As a big fan of Chicago, I thought I knew this song. Turns out I didn’t. They weren’t as big over here as they should have been. Only hit the top with “If You Leave Me Now”. I suppose it’s one of those songs that’s hard to follow. Anyway, something is dragging me back to New Orleans. I may be some time, but I’ll be back (said in my best Arnie voice)

I love “If You Leave Me Now.” That’s when Cetera could make a good ballad, as opposed to that mush in the 80s he did. New Orleans is calling you!

That’s so sad. A 32-year-old killed for no reason.

There’s a lot to love there. And I think Terry Kath was one of the most underrated guitarists of the rock era.

It's been quite a while, I had forgotten the Caribbean vibe. Which somehow works even though it's about New York City. If only record labels would get out of the way and let things happen organically.

@FourWalls - Believe me, I saw it first-hand from the radio side. "We'll give you ten Lionel Richie tickets to give away if you add these songs to your playlist" - stuff. And only a few songs actually stuck.

Hubby knew both song and artist. How clever of you to use two different cities in this one!

Too bad I don’t have the Miami Sound Machine on the list too!
