Ooh, do I love those video doctor appointments. This was my six-month check-up with my psychologist. We talked about the rough summer and how things are getting better. And now we’re going to talk about music that mentions New York City! Here’s today’s song that hopefully everyone knew was coming. The Boy From New York City - The Ad-Libs Hey, if you’re only going to have one hit, make it count. And, wow, did The Ad-Libs do just that! This was their sole top 40 hit. Here’s something really interesting: the Beach Boys, no less, recorded an “answer song” to this, “The Girl From New York City.” AND, much more significantly, the “ooh, wah, ooh, wah, cool cool kitty” inspired the “good, wah wah, good” in “Good Vibrations.” So this song, superficially, is a footnote to the 60s, a song between the uptick in R&B and the dying sounds of doo-wop. But when you inspire the Beach Boys, you’ve done something!!!
