You’ve seen this bike before. Remember the Love Locks from a couple weeks ago? This is the same bike, a loaner bike from Project Hero while Agent Gravel was being worked on. This photo is Downtown Denver, and I vividly remember the day I took it. Man, do I remember. I was riding with a Project Hero brother. It was a nice, hot 95-ish degrees, and we explored a trail neither of us had been on before. I had already ridden about an hour before I hooked up with him. This trail, it turned out, has no water source along the way. Not even a convenience store. Long story short, I drank the amount of water I would drink in 2 hours on a four and a half hour ride (and no electrolytes.) We ended up at the Denver VA, where I slugged down a bottle of cold water. I don’t think I have to tell you what happened next. The VA doesn’t mess around. I was in the ER within about 60 seconds. Long story short, they had to put two bags of saline into me before they could discharge me. My point with all of this is just to remind you to stay hydrated. Even with the cooler weather on the way, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. And some electrolytes, if you can. Dehydration doesn’t play around. Link is to a University of Kansas Health System short video about the effects of dehydration:

I never got electrolytes. Its Not even in Marine Vocabulary because some man made crap. They will remind you to your ears bleed to hydrate even if you think you good because crap happens. I am glad you good and VA took care of you. People get out of military and funny how that training comes to use.

It's like potassium and stuff. Make sure it's Kazakhstan potassium. Their potassium is superior to other countries potassium.

@crossbones27 - Believe me, I know there's a Marine way. Just like there's an Army way.

So glad you’re okay.?? Crazy how quickly dehydration creeps up, right? Even when you think you’ve got it all figured out?? Thanks so much for the reminder.

Oh, it was like three years ago. But yes, it caught me by surprise. I didn't realize it because I actually enjoy riding in the heat.

@Ayen03 - I do. But if I know I'm going to be out for longer than 3 hours I make sure I know where I can get water.

@teamfreak16 Haha! yes enjoying the heat totally distracts you. Who would’ve guessed? Do you still ride in hot weather now?

I really like this one. My doctor is after me to get more electrolytes. She said to “eat chips” to get more salt. So I’m drinking a lot of Pedialyte because I don’t want chips. Fortunately, I also guzzle water every day.

Knew you'd end up dehydrated. That must have been terrible.

@toniganzon - I would like to try the route we did again, maybe when it's a bit cooler.

If I could have just had one more water bottle I think I would've been okay.
