Eli's First Month of 7th Grade

Hey everyone, how are you all doing?
I remember last school year, at least in the second semester I would share weekly or every so often, how he was doing. I thought it might be worth doing that again...maybe if he sees some encouraging words he'll try to keep up the good work, or do better where he is not doing so well.
So far his grades are looking like this :
World History - 40% (F)
PE/Health - 68% (D+)
Language Arts - 100% (A+)
Pre Algebra - 49% (F)
Computers - 87 (B+)
Life Science - 100% (A+)
Advisory -- N/A
Most of the low grades are just because he has not turned in some work. That was his trouble last year, I was hoping it was not going to be a big problem this year. Though he is doing fine turning things in during science. So, not sure what to do about that.
I think he missed quite a bit in math the other day because he did get sick and had to come home early.
I just hope that he will show an improvement as the weeks go on.
What do you think? Did your kids have that kind of problem?

If I didn’t turn in my work, I didn’t do anything else until the work was turned in. My parents were pretty clear. Your son is clearly smart enough to do any work he is given. I don’t envy you on how to find a way to get him to show it. Parenting is tough stuff.

Really probably should take his tech and stuff away until he gets it done... But usually trying to do that he says doing that will make him really not want to do it. He's the most stubborn person I've ever met lol. I feel like I'm a bad parent because I didn't teach him better at a younger age and now he just fights everything. Maybe it's him almost being a teenager rebellion

Aw this sounds so much like what a lot of parents go through, my sister had the exact same thing with turning in work. It's weird how some subjects he's smashing it and others he just cant be bothered to hand stuff in, might be worth asking the teacher if its a motivation thing or he's just forgetting. Hope he picks up after being sick, sounds like you're doing the right thing keeping an eye on it.

Oh really? That's very interesting. And yes that is very strange, some classes that he doesn't mind as much at that. We will have parent teacher conferences next month and can talk to his teachers then

I never cared for history, math or P.E. either. Have you thought about getting him a tutor? It sure helped me.

With his anxiety I don't think it would be helpful honestly. I didn't care for those subjects either, well math was okay until I got to pre calculus

My kids knew they would be grounded to their room until the grades came up. That meant no tv, games or phone calls.

Math was bad for me and mom got me a private tutor for awhile, I suggest either you or his dad sti down with him at a PC and look through his work and help him out some, Like show the places of the world on the PC and make world history along with geography interesting, YouTube has plenty in videos to offer making things come alive,
