A farmer has a plant named in his honour (hopefully)

It’s wildflower season in Western Australia and people are flocking to regional areas to view the various flowers. Ravensthorpe, where we used to live, has a 12-day Wildflower Show which is the largest in the state. Approximately 700 different species will be on display including a relatively newly-discovered red hakea. It is hoped that the hakea will be named after Mark Mudie, a local farmer who lost his life fighting bushfires in the region. Mark would often pick wildflowers for his wife and came across the red hakea in his wanderings. As he’d never seen it before, he sent samples of the plant to the relevant authorities. It would be nice if his name was immortalised in this way. The photo is mine of a patch of everlastings from a previous visit north.
