Can You Believe This About Me Now?

I used to be pitifully shy. When I was in high school, I remember walking to my next class and one of the most popular boys in the school started walking beside me and talking to me. I was dumb struck and petrified. I also recall one time I had my girlfriend talk to a boy I liked for me. It was pathetic. It wasn't until I was in my early 20's that I started crawling out of the shyness gig. I had my daughter by then and I realized if I didn't push her, she'd be just like I was. So, I would have her talk to the waitperson and have her do things, so she would learn to not be shy and stand up for herself. Didn't help me much but helped her. I worked on my own insecurities and got to be a lot better. Maybe too much better. It's funny to look back on now. Hindsight is 20/20, right? Now I'd buzz saw my way through a situation. I just had another run in with an old friend. She was trying to say some things that made out like I believed in God. I defended my atheism and she took some of it out of context like I wanted her not to be a Christian around me and says we can't be friends now. We'd only been friends for 60 years. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are. That friend who accused me of stealing from her said she had apologized for accusing me. I could have just went with it and let it be. But, no, what she said was not an apology. She told me 'if' I hadn't done it she was sorry to have accused me. Now what king of apology is that? And then this other gal made these comments like 'our' God, and we know he wouldn't do that, etc. Well, BS to you lady. And I told her I would appreciate not being called into something I'm not a part of. She could have chosen to respect my feelings but, instead she said I had given her an ultimatum to not be who she was. Does that even make sense? She can be whoever she wants just to respect me enough not to add me to it. Whoa! I sure had some weird friends. I could go on about the arrogance of the one and the religious fervor of the other, but I won't. Most people are believers and I have to live with that. I realize they lacked quite a bit in the friendship category anyway. I feel that all types can be friends, they just may have to respect that we all see things in our own way. That went a long way from being shy didn't it? Well, now I'm being sensitive.

You know — and I say this as a firm believer in God — it appears to me that some modern Christians are going out of their way to be hateful and unlikeable, almost as if they can be vile then pat themselves on the back after they’re called on it and say, “Oh, look at how I’m being persecuted by ‘the world.’” Anyway, I’m an introvert myself. I know that sounds funny, given all the myLotters I’ve met, but I have a short battery life when it comes to interacting with people. All of the myLotters I’ve met will tell you it’s been a two-hour thing…because that’s about the extent of my ability to be “on.”

Yes, I see that a lot. I try to be okay with bible thumpers and those who think it's the only way. I am respectful of their belief, I just don't agree. And to have people I have known for decades come down on me for being me and speaking my truth is really down heartening and goes right to the core of what is wrong with America today. I think people were left alone too long during COVID. Something. I about the same. I really only interact with those on here or FB and YT. (and my daughter and grandson) The more I experience being out in the world the more I want to be inside. I only have a short battery life too. I will be 75 in November, and I have enjoyed being an introvert for all those years. I can't imagine it any other way. I tip my hat to you, fellow introvert.

@FourWalls ........yes, he has. I feel if we had a normal president and there was no ICE things would be so much more human in this country.

@celticeagle — I can’t help but think the current administration has “legitimized” acting like a total a**hole and thinking it’s perfectly acceptable.

I was horrible shy to and still am but having a very social 5 year old who talks to anyone helps then I don’t have to talk so much. That’s really awful about your Christian friend.

Same here. Yes, it is. I'd only known her for 60 years but now we can't be ourselves around one another.

Just now
@celticeagle wow that seriously makes it even worse. That doesn’t sound like a very good friend or a very good person to me. How is that what she things god wants if she is so religious

It was very good of you to push your daughter so she wasn't shy. I had to do that with Pretty, too. (I'm not always happy that she stands up to me but at least I know she'll stand up to other people who try to get their own way.)

I think you taught her to be self reliant and independent.

My friends and I formed a group of about four or five people and spent afternoons at my mom's apartment listening to teen idols, laughing, dancing, and just having fun,

I spent a lot of time at my friend's houses. Not much going on at home. I have a lot of good memories of those times.
