It’s good to get this off my chest.

Why oh why does the press constantly give oxygen to that vainglorious segment of society we call celebrity? Again the Emmys take pride of place in newspapers and TV news and are accorded the same status and gravity as Putin’s antics in Ukraine, skyrocketing oil prices and failing health care for those who can’t afford to wear a fancy frock to show off their assets. I’ve no objection to the lovelies in tinsel town getting together to pleasure themselves, but I really don’t need to see it played out on the news. It’s not news, it’s nauseating self promotion that the press colludes with. It’s lazy journalism, just as it is with the Harry and Meghan suck fest. It’s easy to write about nothing. Religion used to referred to as the opium of the masses, keeping the lower orders subservient to their betters, but this cult of celebrity is even more insidious, keeping the minds of the population high on frivolity while governments and big business bleed everybody dry.

If it weren’t for the cult of celebrity we wouldn’t have the diaper-wearing president that we have. I’m surprised that the Emmys are so significant a news item in Ireland. We don’t get headline news about the BAFTA awards, as they “don’t concern us” to a great extent. But you’re right. And now we have these “influencers” on social media who are telling kids to eat Tide Pods?!

Do people still pay attention to the Emmys? I quit checking to see who won when shows I actually watched quit getting nominated. I never actually watched the show itself.

The actual cult of celebrity is the new opium of the masses. The Lago di Como area is overcrowded by tourists only because some celebrities bought large houses there. Ridiculous.

Well said. You're spot on with this.
