Congress is unserious

FBI Director Kash Patel testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee today. He has been asked about the Epstein files, his travel, his drinking, employees that he has fired. . . and beastiality. For real. 
Senator John Kennedy represents Louisiana. Senator Dick Durbin represents Illinois. Durbin asked Patel about changes in FBI hiring policy. Apparently the rules have been changed so that people who have engaged in prostitution and/or beastiality (sex with animals) are no longer barred from being hired by the FBI.
Patel's explanation was that people who have been trafficked have been forced to engage in those activities. He said that they didn't want to punish the victims. Kennedy, who is well-known for saying some crazy stuff in hearings, asked him something to the effect of "so wouldn't the victims be the animals?"
He then went further to clarify and ask Patel if people who engaged in beastiality or prostitution could be hired by the FBI. Patel said no. Um, so which is it? Why was the policy supposedly changed when he is saying that those individuals cannot be hired?
And, more importantly, why the hell is Congress wasting time on talking about this kind of stuff when there are like a zillion other more important things? Seriously, how many FBI applicants have been trafficked and forced to have sex with animals? Congress is an unserious body which is part of the reason why we are all paying more for everything.

Yeah that hearing sounds like a mess, Patel contradicting himself like that is wild. Kennedy asking about the animals being the victims is honestly a fair point lol. And I agree, feels like a huge waste of time when there's so much actual stuff going on that affects people's wallets.
