Are You Kidding Me?

I just absorb the rising cost of gas and groceries. Are you able to do the same? I am a middle class American who was smart enough to match any money I made with money from my employers. Retirement looms ahead for all of us. I was grumbling about the cost of gas, which had reached $5.79 at my discount station, but simultaneously smiling at the fact that Trump's antics cannot really affect me month to month. I am not "rich," but I see myself as "safe." I pulled into my discount station so I could make it to music practice without having to worry about fuel. The price had risen another 20 cents per gallon. $6.00 per gallon. Are you kidding me? Do you know people who voted for Donald Trump in the 2024 election? I am not sure if I do or not. Have any "late" Trump supporters actually apologized to you? To misquote the Talking Heads, how did we wind up here?

Most of them will never admit they were wrong.

Have you heard the song that Canadians are listening to now? I posted it in my box on this thread.

Why do you think it is difficult for them to admit they were wrong?

I knew a few who voted for Trump the first time, but once was enough. I know one person who voted for him this time…my brother-in-law. He has plenty of money, and while he’ll complain about the cost of things he doesn’t blame it solely on Trump. My sister won’t talk to him about it, my dad openly calls Trump an idiot, but he and I will chat about his continued belief in Trump. That’s not to say he blindly believes what he says. He just still believes Trump can make changes that are hard to make. And he does sound apologetic when he talks to me about Trump because Trump isn’t sympathetic to people on disability. Which one would think would stick with him since he has a special needs son. My dad is currently paying for my groceries. It makes me feel like crap, but I try to show him every day how thankful I am for it. I don’t know if he can keep that up when he retires.

Being thankful is an important thing. My brother rarely or never thanks me for keeping the cabin we co-own up and running. It is a source of frustration for me.

Yes, I know two people who voted for trump. My brother and SIL. They aren't happy right now but they're okay since they are getting Social Security and she's still babysitting 9 kids. I did run into something you might like to watch, though.

Well Im sitting here in Scotland And been a keen follower of American politics since I studied the subject at some length in the late 70,s and 80,s And i have to say that the people who let America down were the Democrats, of that there is no doubt. A huge gene pool to choose from And the best that they could do was an old man with dementia and a woman who was so far out of her depth that Trump seemed like the " answer" So we shouldn't be asking Trump supporters to apologize at all or indeed expect them to do so. Increasing prices have not been an issue for me because like you, I was careful with money and planned for the future , like now

Biden was old and tired, and he was not a charismatic speaker, but he never had dementia. Trump clearly does.

@TheHorse He did have dementia I mean he almost fell asleep during a debate But my point is this We deal in personality politics now Neither Biden or Harris had a personality which appealed to the voters Where as Trump was big and brash and with all his Maga stuff sold himself The Democrats were responsible for Trump being elected

@Ineeddentures I agree that the Democrats let someone like Trump be elected. I have spoken about this for years. "Political correctness" is an abomination. It paved the way for someone like Trump to appeal to those who were tired of the same.

At least that is one expense I don't have to consider. And we can go back to singing the old songs that now have new meaning, like Eve of Destruction.

Yeah gas prices are wild right now, feel like every week it's creeping up another few cents. .. experiencing that in Nigeria.. Groceries too, i swear my cart costs double what it used to for the same stuff. Hope your retirement savings keep you steady through all this, sounds like you're doing it smart at least.

I am doing my best. We Americans owe the rest of the world an apology for what we allowed to happen.
