Ah the day spa

I've posted about it before. I was in residential rehab for alcohol back in the spring for 2 months. I was back there in early August for 3 weeks. I'm open about it with friends. The crazy part of it all is that it wasn't the alcohol that was making me so weak and shaky. It was low blood platelets. . . which are caused by alcohol. I was a star student both times I was at the retreat. I did fine. I saw people freaking out and having to go to the hospital while I didn't even do the detox taper because I didn't need it. The nurses, techs, and counselors loved me because I was just like a potted plant that they had to check on once a day. The place I went to is considered a "luxury rehab" and I can't disagree. All organic food, beautiful accommodations, tons of holistic sessions, etc. I never had an issue with the actual therapy sessions. I'll speak up. (are you surprised?) But the afternoons were the best--aromatherapy, singing bowls, massage, reikki, etc. One of the counselors said to me once "why does everyone think rehab should be a punishment?" Very good point. Well I'm killing it lately so I don't expect to go back there anytime soon. I do miss it though. I wasn't ever happy to be away from the cat crew but I really did enjoy my time there. My mother visited me several times and said it was like a day spa. My ex said it was like summer camp. (ropes course, cold plunge, fishing, golfing, etc) I've read so many stories about people who get out of prison who then immediately go out and do something else so they get back in the slammer. I kind of understand that. I'd love to be back at the day spa aside from the whole being away from my cats. The good news is that work is good, the medication I'm taking is doing its job, and all things are good. I wish the place was closer though so I could hang in the hammocks. Thats like one of my favorite things.

Glad to hear things are going good for you now, that medication working right makes a real difference. Sounds like you found a place that actually treated you like a person, not just a case, and that matters more than people realize. Hope you get those hammock days again soon, even if it means a little road trip to get there.

No chance of putting a hammock somewhere in your apartment? Love the 'potted plant' comment.
