That string of waking up early (for me) is over. I rolled over and slept for another hour. That’s okay, it’s scorching outside, and the city is filled up with heavy metal fans for Louder Than Life. What else is there to do but eat lunch, go home, and do my back stretches in nice air-conditioned comfort? Oh, post a song, I can do that! Here’s today’s song for New York. Sheena Is a Punk Rocker - Ramones And wow, it’s our second song this week that mentions a discotheque! (The other one was “One’s on the Way”: “Jackie’s seen in a discotheque doing a brand new dance.”) They were once called discotheque (theque means bookcase, so it was a “record bookcase” or place where records were found). After the disco music era started they shortened it to disco, probably because everyone was too coked up to say discotheque. And hey, it’s the Ramones, and what’s more New York City than one of the great bands of the CBGB era! After this, Sheena and the gang probably hitched a ride to Rockaway Beach.
