An FB post that hit me the wrong way

Just saw someone actually post something that blew my mind and decided not to comment to keep the peace, but I find what they posted completely idiotic. It was a meme saying paying 4 dollars for a gallon of gas sucks, but they found it ironic that those same people would pay 9 dollars for a small fancy coffee. There is so much wrong with this comparison. First, I have never in my life paid 9 dollars for a single small cup of fancy coffee. I have paid six dollars at most for a medium cup of coffee, and not on a regular basis. One occasional splurge for a cup of coffee is not the same as 4 dollars (actually more in a lot of places) PER gallon of gas, where it costs over 60 dollars to fill up a car to get to places you NEED to go. The fact that they thought this was a smart post boggles my mind. I can easily go without a fancy coffee to save money, but we HAVE to go to work and get groceries. The comparison sounds absolutely idiotic. I have found people using this ideology when they don't have an intelligent answer to explain how ridiculous things are. They use it when they refuse to admit they're being taken by someone they voted for. They have explained away every single bad thing someone does and refuse to admit when they are wrong. No matter what the person does, they make an excuse for it or say it isn't true and instead bring something forward about someone else instead of admitting that someone is wrong. I have never seen a loyalty quite like this during my lifetime, and it baffles me. Let me be very clear about something: I am not a liberal. I am also not a conservative. I've been politically middle-of-the-road the majority of my life. I was raised in a very conservative family. I have beliefs that fall on both sides, and I have always believed that anyone who goes too far left or too far right is going to cause problems. I have made mistakes when voting in the past because it's hard to know how someone will do until they're in office, but when you have flat-out seen the mistakes and continue to vote for them, it baffles me. I have defended people I didn't like because I believe in honesty. I don't believe in placing blame when it doesn't lie with said person, no matter how much I don't like them. I don't believe gas prices are always the president's fault, but some choices the president makes can directly impact gas prices. I think people really need to open their eyes and see what is in front of them, and stop making excuses. Most of the posts I have seen from certain supporters lately haven't had an ounce of fact in them but rely heavily on opinions and feelings instead of any logic or fact. If you know what a straw man fallacy is, you'll know that politics often heavily relies on this tactic. It never uses actual reason or logic, and it's something I've been seeing a lot in conservatives lately. I have seen liberals use it a lot in the past and took issue with it then too. This isn't even about political parties anymore; it's more about using our brains to see the real issues instead of letting our emotions lead the way. People who are narrow-minded and refuse to change their opinions when new facts and evidence present themselves are often the most uneducated people I've ever met. This goes for each side. I will always listen and take in the new information and weigh it against other information, and I have been known to change my opinion. I believe people should have the character to admit when they are wrong and try to change to better themselves. Old habits die hard, and I know that. I know it's difficult to admit mistakes and try to change. We have all been wrong in our lifetime because we are human. We can either sit and be ignorant, or we can change and try to do better, but what do I know? I'm only human.
