I'm So Confused

I made contact on Facebook with an old friend last night. We had a nice conversation on Messenger. I went to read over it today and it was gone. I tried to bring it back and no luck. I have a pin and use that but nothing.
She had told me some things that I wanted to jot down so I could remember them. No luck. I guess I should have done that last night.
I see where the messages will erase in 24 hours. I turned that off. I am so confused on encrypted and such. I have turned off the erasing the messages after 24 hours.
Such a bummer. I write back and forth with my daughter on Messenger and have had this issue but was always to bring it back. Not so on this one. Ugh!

so did you connect via the facebook page or the separate meta messenger ( blue symbol)?

@celticeagle download the messenger on your phone and it may offer you the option to save archive messages .Wont take long

That sucks. Were you on the phone or computer? Did you chat on Messenger as an app or did you chat on Facebook?
Better have the Messenger so that won't happen. You might be able to retrieve the message from there.
I'm not fond of Facebook at all but it seems that everybody's using it as a means of communication.

I have no idea how it all works but if and when I want to keep a message from there I copy and paste it on a paper so it keeps,
