I am sick of hearing about AI

AI = artificial intelligence. I'm a big news junkie and pretty much always have it on in the background as I'm doing my thing here. I think it is important to know what is going on in the country and the world but there are some topics that I'm just over. I don't care about Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. I'm totally over everyone's freak out about AI. It is like all the news is talking about these days. I mean I know that I'm old but hasn't everyone seen the Terminator movies? I saw Terminator 2 before the first one (go figure) but they came out in like the 80s/90s. Even before that there was the movie about that computer Hal that was trying to kill its owner. At no time has AI ever seemed like a good idea to me. I'm not some great technology visionary. . . I've just seen how things can go wildly wrong thanks to Hollywood. I see my students try to use AI to get their work done every day. They know they aren't supposed to and hey it makes my life easier because they get zeros. Less work for me to grade! They think that they don't need to learn or know anything because they have the answers to everything on their phones thanks to Google and AI. I try to knock some sense into them by asking if they want to get on a plane with a pilot who got through flight school thanks to AI or if they want a brain surgeon who Googled their way through medical school. They don't get it and they think I'm insane. Still I'm sick of hearing the news flipping out about AI. People either get it or they don't.
