Some things make me think even harder about safety

I've been pretty much in shut down mode since yesterday afternoon. It was not intentional. At a little after 5 PM, I left the hospital complex to head home. Familiar route, I know the traffic patterns, but of course I was in the 5 o'clock traffic. It happens. The hospital is about 6 blocks from the main big intersection that I have to go to in order to turn north and head out for home. Waiting in a left turn lane, 2 state police helicopters swooped really low right over the line of cars. Scary! Shook the car...I turned and we were at a standstill. So many police cars and one helicopter landed in a nearby parking lot. My son turned on a live feed we both have on our phones and have rarely even used, two men got in some type of argument at McDonald's and one pumped bullets into another one...and then he disappeared, fast. They have had drones and dogs and many law enforcement people out and about. They still haven't caught the shooter. Yes, many of us hear of shootings in nearby cities and towns quite frequently. It happens, unfortunately. But for some reason, it really shook me up, I try so hard to be safe and travel safely and be aware of my surroundings. But no one can see everything or read people's minds. Son and I were talking while we sat there waiting, with the doors locked of course, and the windows up. Since the shooter was on the loose law enforcement was checking with every driver and every vehicle. Finally, we were allowed to slowly continue, get out of the city and head home. We try to stay safe...but no matter what, no one can predict the actions of others. This one hit home hard, as it happened so close. When we reached home, I think I just shut down for the night.... I evidently shook me up more than I thought it did. I use the road by that McDonald's all the time. We don't go there, but there is a side road there that leads to places we need to go to. Be aware. Be as safe as you can be.
