A very close friend of ours is going through something no parent should ever have to face with her 16-year-old daughter. A couple of days ago, her daughter fell in the shower, so they took her to the ER. What started as a scary accident quickly turned into something none of them could have imagined. After examining her, the doctors became concerned that she may have cancer and sent her to a specialist at UF in Gainesville. Once they arrived at the hospital, they did an MRI and found what they suspect is cancer. Tomorrow, they will get the results of the biopsy. If it is positive, they will begin treatment over the weekend, and then she will travel back home. They’ll be making the trip between home and Gainesville for her treatments, which is going to be a lot in itself. But honestly, all of this is just a lot. I cannot imagine taking your child to the ER because she fell, and then just 24 hours later finding yourself talking about cancer, biopsies, treatment plans, hospitals, and everything that comes with it. It’s heartbreaking and overwhelming to even think about. I know not everyone is a praying person, and I completely understand that. So whatever you believe in—prayers, good vibes, positive energy, juju, whatever it may be—please send it her way. I’m not going to share her name because I want to respect their privacy, but she is one of the sweetest 16-year-olds you could ever meet. My heart is with her, her family, and everyone who loves her. I’m praying and hoping with everything I have that they caught this early, that tomorrow brings some good news, and that this sweet girl is going to kick cancer’s butt.
