When You Have Your Doubts

In the film "Dracula" (1931), the quote goes: "They're all crazy except you and me. Sometimes I have my doubts about you.” An asylum employee says this to a nurse who works there. It fondly reminded me of some of the best friends I have ever had in my life and how sometimes we did such crazy things you would have to wonder. A very dear friend of mine from high school days was my good buddy hanging around NYC, particularly in the summertime, and often we went wandering, winding up in some bar for a cold beer. One time we entered a small, dark bar and saw that no one was there. It being late afternoon, we wondered where everyone was. We got our beer and then we noticed some strange things. They put a chair in front of the open door as if to not let anyone else in. It was odd. I looked at him and he at me and we decided whatever strange things might or might not happen, we did not want to get involved, So we paid up and walked around the chair and were happy to be back in the sunshine. With sadness I have to say this buddy of mine always kept in touch even when I was in Latvia. He said we would laugh about all those crazy times when we were old and gray. Unfortunately, he went through some tough times and took his own life. I sure miss that guy.
