Babysitting Day #2

I mentioned earlier in comments that: 1. Day 1 was just training for Day #2. 2. I was definitely going to bed early tonight, which in my book means before midnight. I have 2 more hours to go, but won't make it that long! Today was rough because my son in law went in to work early and left the house at 6:30 am. That meant we had to get my granddaughter to school at 7:45 and my daughter had to be signed in for work at 8 am. My daughter said she would take the daughter to school and bring the baby. It is just down the road and it is easier to just walk than put the baby in the car and drive there. Plue the baby screams when the vehicle stops --even for 30 seconds until moving again. Don't you know driving in town is fun here with all the red lights? I can't stand to talk to my daughter on the phone when she is driving because he is going at it at the top of his lungs. So, I took the opportunity to run to the post office and drop off a package that I did not get mailed before I left my house the other day. We got back to the house at about the same time and I took over with the baby. He was very good for about an hour and then he decided that it would just be one of those days. Finally around 10 am, my daughter fixed him a bottle. She did not have time to pump this morning with taking daughter to school, so I just had to wait it out. But he had been fed right before they left. Two hours is not that long for a 3 month old to be starving. We got the bottle and he downed if fairly quickly. He has several spit ups and we had a changing of clothing and a diaper. Went back to the living room to watch Curious George, which is his favorite show and he actually watches it. However, today it did not hold his attention very well. He also did not want to sit in his rocker or get in his swing. Any time I tried, he would scream. I would get him out after seeing that he was not settling down no matter what I tried and we would go for a walk in the yard or go to the kitchen or dining room farther away from my daughter's office. At 11 am my daughter takes her official break and usually eats a quick lunch so that she can take him at lunch hour at noon and breast feed him. Instead, she took him and fed him and took a sandwich back in the office with her. This didn't last long when I got him back to going back to being Mr. Impossible. It ended up that he wouldn't let me put him down at all except to change diapers. He loves getting diapers changed and changing clothes. He smiles, coos and giggles all through it. Then when I get him up he is back to being Mr. Grumpy. I was hoping that he would enjoy his sister's attention when she came in from school, but that was not the case either. So 5 o'clock was looking very good to me so that his mamma could get him quiet. She did fine with him when it was time to do his therapy stretches and play on the floor for a few minutes and then he started all over again. She attempted to start dinner, but I stepped in and let her take the baby since she can deal with him much better than me. She ended up getting his bath and putting him to bed early tonight since he did not sleep much today at all. This only lasted for about an hour and a half before he was up screaming again. I hope we all get some sleep tonight. Edit: The first thing I heard this morning was, "We had a very bad night last night!" Photo Credit: My Own, Baby Photo from Day 2!

It's kind of hard for a baby to adjust to something when it is in pain and feeling bad all the time. I hope someone can talk my daughter into a 2nd opinion (because she is not listening to me) and/or a new doctor for him. I'm not liking this one.

I think she needs a second opinion on the acid reflux and also the problem with what they called undeveloped muscles in jaw. My other grandson from other daughter had the same thing when born and it was diagnosed as just a problem that he would grow out of and he did. He gulps and that makes a very loud noise when feeding. Undeveloped muscles just seems lame for a baby that was almost 10 lbs. at birth.

I have never been so glad to be childless. I love babies, and adore my nieces and nephew, but I could not deal with that. God bless you for doing it for your daughter. He’s the cutest baby in the world, but wow!

It has been a very long week and I am so glad to be home and it is QUIET!!! Most of all HE deserves to be pampered when in pain. I hope someone can talk my daughter into a 2nd opinion and/or a new doctor for him. I'm not liking this one.

@kareng That’s an excellent point. I know some babies just cry to be held (my niece did), but if it’s because something is off, that’s another story. A second opinion is a good idea, and you have the wisdom to know it’s advisable to do. Really experienced mothers just know.

@AmbiePam I don't know if you saw the part about how the dr. also said his muscles were not fully developed in his throat or not and that was what was causing the sucking problem. I told her about that when he was first born and she asked dr. One of her sister's kids had that and was told that he would grow out of it. As long as he was getting nourishment, and not choking, everything would be okay. Her sister told her about that and it went in one ear and out the other.

Oh Kareng, that sounds like such a long day. Three months old is rough, they just have those days where nothing works and grandma gets the worst of it. Hope you all get some real sleep tonight.

The night time just got worse. But I got to sleep. It was still hard getting up at 7:30 every morning. I'm sore. Not used to carrying around 20 lbs. all day. But it is better than letting him cry all day. He deserves better. I hope my daughter will reconsider a 2nd opinion and/or new doctor for him.

@kareng I hope so, too. No one can work any kind of job with a screaming baby. I feel sorry for everyone involved.
