An Aussiefied chessboard

This wooden chessboard was crafted by my son a few weeks before we left Australia as a part of his school project in designing. It's got magnetic pieces and a draw underneath to hold the pieces We've put it on one of the shelves in the living area of our home now. My daughter thought it wasn't Aussie enough and added the koala to the board. I wonder how the koala will move and capture pieces in a real chess board. They are very sleepy animals - so maybe it will doze away wherever it is put What do you think
