Claire is NOT a fan of being brushed

While I was on my spa vacation my neighbor texted me that she was getting matted. I ordered a cat brush and it arrived here. . . but she didn't do anything with it. I brushed her when I got back and yes there definitely was a big chunk but that was it. Yesterday I noticed that she was developing several of them around her back end. She kept running away from me when I approached her with the brush so I finally figured out that I had to just grab her and then get the brush. I brushed them all out and man was she pissed. It isn't painful for them but I guess maybe she didn't like the pressure of the brush pulling on her. I got a ton of fur off of her. I will have to make it a point to brush her weekly so she gets used to it. I had a long-haired cat once before and she LOVED being brushed. Hopefully Claire will be a convert in time. For now, though, she runs away whenever I approach her. She is mad at me.

My dogs always loved being brushed, even the long haired dog. But cats are cats, and I guess they are known for being more temperamental. I just picture her trying to dart away from you, and looking at you like you have some nerve.

Claire looks like a cat model. It's strange that she does not like being brushed. My precious Sid loved being brushed and considered the brush his personal property,

Aw poor Claire, I bet she'll forgive you once she sees it feels better. Weekly brushing sounds like a good plan, cats usually get used to it with time. Maybe a few treats after each session would help her stop running off.
