How Much Time Does Your Doctor Spend With You?

There are signs posted in my doctor’s office telling patients that they can only handle one or two issues per appointment. A typical appointment is about 15 minutes here in the United States.
My doctor said some people will come in with a laundry list of 8 to 12 things and there’s just no time to handle them all
I totally get that. A doctor can’t spend an hour with every patient or they would never get through their schedule for the day.

It depends on how serious whatever I made the appointment for with her is. My regular doctor asked how did the appointment with the neurologist go. I told her everything went fine but she asked follow-up questions until I finally described exactly what happened. We LIKE our regular doctor. She wants to make sure everything really is fine if I tell her it's fine.
I think we spent about 45 minutes talking with her the other day. I told her about my 5 days in the hospital and the follow-up appointment with the neurologist. She said to call and let her know when my appointment is with the surgeon. If she can, she said she'd see me in the hospital after the surgery. I told her I'd only be there one day and night. She said to let her know, anyway.

Our appointments are ten minutes long and you can only talk about one thing.

I’d say 15 to 20 minutes is the amount of time with my primary care. I’ve noticed though with my pain management doctor, appointments from other people can take thirty. But he’s a specialist, and that’s a bit different than my primary care. My pain management doctor told me I’m one of his favorite patients because I never complain. I mean, he knows I’m in pain or I wouldn’t be there. No need to whine about it. Although, I understand if someone has an aggravation of their problem. But I want in, and then right out. I rarely keep any of my doctors.
