It is perkedel. Perkedel did not originate from a specific region in Indonesia; rather, it is an adaptation of a Dutch dish known as frikadeller or frikadel, introduced during the colonial era. In its country of origin, frikadel is made from minced or ground meat that is shaped into a patty and fried. Upon its introduction to the Indonesian archipelago, the main ingredient was replaced with potatoes—which were cheaper and more readily available—and seasoned with distinctive Indonesian spices.

Did the Dutch attempt to colonize Indonesia? It sounds like they were trading partners at least.

It used to be the Dutch East Indies. I think that's right. Is it correct @nawala123?

Yes, another Indonesian was talking about those a couple of years ago and, when I asked, she sent me her recipe in the private messages. I made a batch of them and showed off my efforts. Then Pretty and I ate every one I made. Not bad at all! I made mine with mashed potatoes, too.

It definitely looked like nuggets to me, and I think it tastes even better. Since it’s minced or ground meat, it must be good. I know pork isn’t allowed there.

Didnt know perkedel came from the Dutch frikadel. Makes sense though, swapping meat for potatoes since they were cheaper. Love how food changes when it travels.
