Okay, I Now Officially Feel As Old As Methuselah

Methuselah lived 969 years. That's where the phrase "As old as Methuselah" comes from. I got my nails done a little while ago in preparation for my upcoming trip. Mani/Pedi without any polish. There was a teenage girl, possibly early 20's working the front desk. I engaged in a couple of moments of conversation with her. I told her that she looked like the main character/actress in the new Amazon Prime series, "Carrie." She asked, "What's that?" I said, "You know, the Stephen King book and the movie about the girl who is mistreated at high school but has telekinetic powers and gets even with them at prom?" "No, I've never heard of that," she said. That's it. I AM as old as Methuselah.

I know this happens to every generation but now it happens to us. Actually. there's no excuse not to know the King book and movie. He probably the best known and most famous author alive and Carries is shown like a billion times.

Nope, not your fault in this day and age with computers. Women like her if they are intelligent and should have knowledge of authors or old films actors etc by just showing interest and looking up the information. I grew up in the 1960s and yet, by the 1970s I knew what music I liked. I knew songs and rock stars and put together my likes and dislikes and that was with no computer no excuse now for being ignorant

OMG! Carrie is a classic! And I think it's not because you're too old. She's just someone who's not into movies at all because there were Carrie movie remakes. 1976, 2002 and 2013. Last night I saw there as one on Prime but I haven't started watching it yet.

There have been so many versions of Carrie that I don’t think it is unreasonable to have expected her to be familiar with that.

@looeyville My wife was 39 during her last (and final) pregnancy and was referred to frequently by ante natal staff as an older mother. The cheek! And at the hospital appointments she was the only person over 15 years of age in the waiting room. All those young school girls looked at us as if we were disgusting and a disgrace still doing “that” at our age!

I've heard the title but that's it. I've never read or seen it either. And I'm probably old enough to be her grandmother.

I can relate to that. Younger generation don’t know much about old movies we have seen before. I wonder if the new Carrie is as good as the old movie.

Interestingly enough, the new "Carrie" streaming series on Amazon Prime is the #1 streaming show right now. I figured that's why she should know it.

Haha that made me laugh, it's wild how fast the references stop landing. I got a blank look once too when I mentioned a movie everyone knew back in the day. You're not as old as Methuselah, she just missed out on a good story.
