I do love a good cookery programme. I do like Rick Stein, he seems a very down to earth guy and he cooks hearty, flavourful meals. He is well known for cooking fish and indeed had several famous fish restaurants in Cornwall. He does, however cook other foods too. I haven’t seen any of his programmes for years so I am really enjoying watching these programmes this evening. He is travelling around Ireland ….just cooked corned beef with veggies in a broth …looked delicious. I was interested to hear that corned beef started its life in Ireland. Also the ‘ corned ‘ part of the name refers to the size of the salt grains that were originally used in its cooking ….they were the size of corn kernels. Interesting eh ?

Rick Stein is such a nice watch, he always seems so relaxed and real. I never knew that about the corned part of corned beef, thats actually really interesting. Now I want to go find that episode and make the broth myself.

I never would have guessed that information. Rick Stein…that name sounds familiar. I wonder if he’s crossed over ever to American television.

@Traceyjayne I read so much about him I even judged him for his affair with some chick 20 years younger than him named Sarah Burns. Meanwhile, I HAVE seen him before, for sure. I just don’t remember the exact show.

@AmbiePam he has done many shows over the years , some his own, some working with others … I remember when the affair became public knowledge ….i think he lost a fair few fans after that.

@JudyEv. I think I would like to try and make my own corned beef after seeing on in this programme. It looks really good. I’ve never heard of pickled pork. It’s not something we have here. It’s a shame as that sounds really good too.
