I would hate having inspections here

I freely admit that cleaning is not my strong point but I also don't live like a slob. I clean up after myself and the cat crew. I also have a cleaning lady here every other week to do stuff like scrub the tub and floors, take out cardboard, etc. Over the years I've seen people complaining about having landlords/management going through their apartments to inspect them. That's not a thing here. A few years ago the state came through to make sure that everything was working. I didn't have any issues with anything as maintenance has always been good to me. I used to be buddies with the Moroccans who live downstairs. We would sit outside and chill on the landing. They never let maintenance in even though their oven, dishwasher, and washing machine were broken. The place was trashed. The walls were stained from all of the smoking inside and the rug was totally stained from spilled red wine. I don't even remember how they eventually got in there but they wound up repainting the walls. They were supposed to also replace the carpet but I don't know if that ever happened. One of them died and the other is busy with his girlfriend so that friendship has kind of fizzled. They probably should do inspections here but I'm glad they don't. My place would pass but it would just be another source of anxiety that I don't need.

Section 8 has to do one inspection a year before they agree to continue paying for part of your rent (you already know this, of course). They want to make sure management does their part in the upkeep of the apartment, but also that I, the tenant, am doing my part. Then, there is usually one inspection a year when the owners of the property want to tour people’s homes so they can see how well they are being kept. Since management doesn’t know who will be picked, they have a site wide inspection to make sure everyone has kept their apartment up to par. Most people don’t want anyone to see their messes. They don’t want to clean. Meanwhile, if you refuse the inspection they charge you $75. But no one can refuse the section 8 inspection.

I'm not in section 8 housing. I pay full price.

@NJChicaa Yeah, I know. I was explaining why WE have inspections. Regular people apartments don’t do that. You wouldn’t qualify for it; you need to be poor.

They'll be doing inspections here now as this is a tax credit property..in the next few days..the investors and the city inspect around every 6 months or so, but only random apartments. Course my place is spotless and nothing broken so not worried. They do have to give you 24 hour notice anyway.

Our place is relatively clean and relatively tidy but thankfully we own it and don't have to answer to anyone.

Honestly I get the anxiety part, even if your place would pass. Having someone walk through your space just feels invasive no matter what. Sad about your friend downstairs too, those little landing hangouts are the best kind of friendship.
