Off to Hollywood we go! Here’s the next song on my list of tunes that have a Hollywood reference in them. And we call on an earlier singer’s dad for the songwriting credit on this one. Philadelphia Lawyer - Maddox Brother and Rose I have mentioned this before, but Rose Maddox is my favorite female country singer. That probably shocks the daylights out of all of them, because you’ve never heard of her. Well, that’s just weird old me. One of my trips through Alabama included a stop in Boaz, where the Maddox family hailed from. Before Buck Owens, and before Merle Haggard, there was the Maddox Brothers. They helped put Bakersfield on the map when it comes to music. Here they are doing a Woody Guthrie classic. You may remember earlier in the countdown, on the Los Angeles side, I used Woody’s son, Arlo, with the song “Coming Into Los Angeles.” If you’ve never wrote this song before, let’s just say that Wild Bill was a forerunner of Chuck Norris! What a great song. You remember when I wrote about the museum in Bakersfield and in the Bakersfield sound display the Maddox clan were prominently featured. Roy Acuff must have said those darn hillbillies! Those wild west folks in an oil town daring to defy the Nashville sound!

Never heard of Rose Maddox before but now I want to check her out. Cool that the family helped put Bakersfield on the map before Buck and Merle. Love the Woody Guthrie connection too, that Arlo link was a nice touch.
