The news just reported that the average new car price is. . .

. . . $750! And that is just the AVERAGE. They also said that people are stretching out car loans to 7 years to try to get monthly payments down. That is absolutely crazy! I know my sister bought a Ford Expedition a couple of years ago and her payment is over $1000/month. My car was paid off almost 2 years ago and the monthly payment was $475. I can't imagine having to pay $700+ for a new car. My car is a Mazda MX-5 (Miata) convertible. It is absurdly small. As I get older I get more nervous driving it--especially on the parkway--because I'd never survive a major crash in it and pickup trucks for some reason like to try to run me off the road. I made the mistake of mentioning it to my mother a year or two ago and she's been on my case to get rid of it ever since. I like not having a car payment and I wouldn't be able to afford $750 payments. No thank you.
