While we’re in the neighborhood, let’s head on over from L.A. and visit Hollywood! Here’s another song from the long list of tunes that reference the movie capital of the world in title or lyrics. Say Goodbye to Hollywood - Billy Joel And John’s probably going, “Happy to see me back, huh? Then what’s with all these people I don’t like?” Yeah, it’s BIlly Joel, back again. This song was put on a live album called Songs in the Attic,, a compilation of live recordings of things from his pre-success albums. It was released as a single in 1981, when the record label was doing everything possible to cash in on his success. (They even released one-sided 45s, with no B-side, which meant that they didn’t have to pay royalties for the B-side selling. ) While this is set in the glamorous setting, it happens everywhere. “Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes” no matter where you are. Say Goodbye to Hollywood Written by Billy Joel Recorded by Billy Joel From Turnstiles, 1976 HOLLYWOOD LYRICS: title So many faces in and out of my life:

@NJChicaa — “Scenes” is marvelous but my favorite is “Captain Jack.” Just not a song you’d expect from Billy Joel.

Love that live version of this one, Songs in the Attic is such a good album. The one sided 45 thing is wild, never knew labels did that back then. Billy Joel back again is always fine with me

I love the Turnstiles album, but that might be the Elton John connection.

One of Billy Joel’s best, but I could say that about pretty much all of them. Brilliant! And the line, “Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes” resonates so well.

Anything and everything by the piano man, I got to say goodbye to Hollywood when I was kicked out of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC after trying to get somewhere for two years only two more and I could of run amok in Hollywood screaming I got my certificate but who would listen
