Stubbies and stubby holders

I wrote about a stubby holder thinking everyone would know what I meant. Wrong again it seems! A stubby in Australian is a glass bottle containing beer. The ones in my photo hold 330ml (11 fluid ozs) each. To keep the beer cold while it’s being drunk and to make an ice-cold bottle more comfortable to hold, the bottle (or can) is often placed in a stubby holder. These are typically made from neoprene or something similar. The holder traps air to slow heat transfer thus helping keep the drink colder for longer and offer a comfortable grip. Most sporting clubs sell these holders or they are given away as promotional items. We were given one with an image of a bride and groom. So do you have stubby holders in your country?

Yes, that’s just not what we call them. I’m sure someone in the U.S. must remember our name for them.

Ha, I had no clue what a stubby holder was until now. We just call them koozies here and they're always handed out at weddings and cookouts. Never thought about how the neoprene actually keeps the drink cold, that's pretty smart.
