And speaking of people who will have their patience rewarded today, we’ll kick off the top ten list of songs mentioning Los Angeles with a song that’ll hopefully pay NJ Chic back for the pain she had to endure earlier this month in reading the discussion about a Steely Dan song.
Here we go with an old favorite.
#10: Come Monday - Jimmy Buffett
See you tomorrow.
It was 1973, on a daytime-only AM country radio station called WELE in Daytona Beach, where I first heard Jimmy Buffett. They played “The Great Filling Station Hold-Up” regularly. The next year, they played this song as well. Yes, I listened to Jimmy Buffett PM (Pre-“Margaritaville”).
This is one of those “everybody knows” Buffett songs, which means it may get too much airplay. It’s okay. It’s a sweet love song about the toll the life on the road takes on marriages. Some marriages don’t survive it. Buffett’s did. He and Jane had been married for 46 years at the time of his death. So enjoy it again, because he meant it.

L.A. LYRICS:
I’ve spent four lonely days in the brown L.A. haze

Are you sure??? You have plenty of time to think about it, don’t rush into these things.

I literally have spent all these years thinking he was singing "brown empty haze."
Thank you for clearing that up. Now it all makes sense.

One of my many services here. However, as with any Boomer, you’re free to continue singing the wrong lyrics.

@FourWalls - They're ingrained in me at this point. I probably will.

I don’t know this one, but I do know someone who will be happy with this choice.

Oh she is. Glad I could make it up to her for the Steely Dan mention.

Naturally. The preferred choice: Monday, Monday.

Except “Monday, Monday” doesn’t mention L.A., and I’ve already used the Mamas and the Papas on this side of the ledger.

@FourWalls I know. I was being facetious.

It’s better than “Margaritaville,” and I don’t think anyone would argue that point.
