I Think Our Scheduler is Taking a Piss

Today I am traveling for 40 min for an hour shift that earns only 14.10 Pounds. And then traveling back home for 40 min again. Mind you, the bus fair is my own expense and my travel time is not paid. So that’s around 4 pound deduction to the hourly wage. My travel time is more than my work time.
My work scheduler was saying this could be my new client and she would need help everyday of the week. Also he ambushed me with this shift while I was at work with another client so I could not even have time to calculate the logistics. I am going today as I do not like cancelling shifts last minute but I am thinking of calling after the shift to say this is not a sustainable set up for me money and time wise. If it was at least 2 hours I can consider. Would I be too demanding if I did that?
If you were in my shoes would you do it? Why or why not?
Also guess what? I am working 6 days of the week next week again despite being promised 2 days off a week. They seem to want to burn me out this early in the game.

Oh, you hate it again? Make your mind up!
Seriously though, they are definitely taking the piss. (not A piss, as that’s literally what it means)
There must be guidelines for this sort of work? Reasonable travel to a job is not 40 minutes each way. You could be working at another client’s during that time and earning an extra £14.10. I would say that is totally unacceptable.
Again, the 6 day working week isn’t what you want, so they should accept that and schedule you around a 4 or 5 day, to suit you.
After your last few pleasant days, it looks like they are trying to piss you off again. I would have refused to accept the new client, but I’m not in your shoes,
I’m sorry you’re having to put up with this crap.

@flapiz If you swapped positions with the scheduler, I’m sure they would be as pissed off as you. It’s totally unreasonable to ask you to attend that client. Don’t be a doormat, otherwise they will keep putting on you.

@Orson_Kart I did mention it to him today when he called and also to the manager I met onsite as I am already working for cheap as it is. If I am working for 5£ an hour I’d rather stay home nice and dry earning it from surveys and games.
I think they want to see my dragon. I am close to exploding and showing them my b*tchy side

They have you over a barrel, as they say. You don't want to resign but it is unacceptable what they're doing. Can you refuse extra shifts? Can you get references from the relatives of those you're helping that would help you find similar work elsewhere? Good luck with whatever you decide to do. They should at least pay your bus fares.

Nah you're not being too demanding, you're just doing the math they didn't give you time to do. Paying your own bus fare and not getting paid for travel on a one hour shift barely leaves you anything. I'd call after and be honest, and the six days a week thing after being promised two days off is a real problem too.

I just spoke to them now. I said the lady is very lovely but I am a bit worried by the commute which took me 45 min to go there and 50 min to come back. I said my commute is longer than the hour I worked and it’s not quite sustainable. If they can increase the hours I work then would be more ideal.
