An unplanned road trip

Yesterday, my husband and I decided to take a mini road trip. We didn't know where we were going. We didn't have a plan. We hopped in the car, and we just drove. We explored a large part of NW Ohio and part of Indiana. My son stayed home, which he wasn't that bummed about, as he loves being home alone.
My husband and I discovered all of these small towns, some of which I didn't even know existed. I was surprised most of them actually had things in them. Some of them I knew existed but didn't realize they were as big as they were.
We drove through towns like Kalida, Ottawa, Ottoville, and Convoy, and Ft. Jennings, Ohio. They are all small towns, but they all actually had things like restaurants and/or stores. They were all rural towns in the middle of nowhere, but they all had a kind of charm to them. We stopped in, I believe it was Kalida, to grab gas station snacks because every road trip should have snacks that look like an unsupervised 12-year-old went grocery shopping, and that's exactly what it looked like. We also went to Van Wert, Ohio. Van Wert has the first county library in the United States and is shaped like a castle. I thought it was super cool. We didn't get to go inside as it was closed, but we got some pictures of the outside.
After Van Wert, we crossed over into Decatur, Indiana. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good bookstore, and I love antique and retro stores. Decatur had an amazing bookstore and an amazing antique store in their downtown. Their bookstore was two stories. I was in heaven. Their antique store had two separate basements, and the prices were actually incredibly reasonable.
My husband and I had also eaten at a Findlay diner before heading further on our journey, and the food there was amazing. The one unfortunate thing that happened was that on our way into Indiana, we were stuck in a traffic jam. We were not too terribly far from the accident that was blocking our path and were fortunately near a rest stop, so we were able to pull off into the rest stop and get out of traffic briefly. We talked to the guy who worked at the rest stop, and he said there was a crash with two cars involved. We were able to see the ambulance and Life Flight from where we were, so we already knew something serious had happened. Apparently, two cars had crashed. I don't know the full details, but I do know the guy said that one of the cars rolled over and caught fire, and that there was a child in one of the cars. I've been trying to find information on the crash but haven't had any luck. I keep hoping everyone survived; obviously, if Life Flight was involved, it was serious. I know a car rollover and a fire are already serious, but some people still manage to walk away from those; when Life Flight is involved, it's usually very serious.
Fortunately my husband and I were able to make it out of the traffic jam fairly quickly once getting back on the road, when we drove by the wreck site we could still see one of the cars in a ditch and there was barely anything left, it was so sad to see.
The rest of our trip was much nicer, and we made it back into Ohio much quicker than it took us to get into Indiana. After we made it back home, we stopped and grabbed our son and went and saw a Halloween light display. We have a house about 12 minutes from us by car that does a Christmas light show every year, and some years they also do a Halloween show, and it was amazing. I think I actually liked it better than their Christmas display, but to be fair, I've seen their Christmas light show every year, and this was the first time I've seen their Halloween one, so I think maybe it just being different made it better. After the light show, we made a trip to McDonald's and grabbed dinner, and then came home. We were exhausted and pretty much fell asleep after dinner. It wasn't the kind of day you plan, but sometimes the unplanned days are some of the best.

They are, and it was unfortunate. I tried to find more information about the crash, and what I found said that two truck drivers put out the fire before EMS even arrived. It sounds like everyone may have survived, but I'm unsure. I am also questioning whether the guy we talked to heard everything correctly based on what I read. We did see Life Flight, though, but I'm unsure how the person is doing now.

I love small towns more than I do the bigger cities a lot of the time. They have less traffic and more charm. I looked up the accident and found a little more information. I'm not sure whether the guy we talked to had heard everything correctly. What I read said two truckers put the fire out before EMS even got there. It also said that one person was hurt. I know we did see Life Flight, but I'm unsure if the person who was airlifted is ok or not. I've been trying to find more updates but haven't had any luck.
