Many people are cutting back on the Halloween candy this year.

I have heard some people say that this year's chocolate prices are so high that chocolate is not on the list to buy for Halloween. From what I have seen of the prices in stores, I can definitely understand that. Some say they will go the cheaper route, but from what I have seen, it's not cheap no matter what you buy this year. High food costs and rising prices in so many areas are causing people to really rethink all of their purchases. Here, and in the surrounding area, they have many ''Trunk or Treat'' places for kids to walk around and get goodies. Many of these are sponsored by churches and are all very well attended. They are well promoted and thankfully have never had problems. I no longer buy Halloween candy, but I have been known to bake cookies for a few special Trick or Treater's! There is hope among the retailers that people will wait until the last minute to purchase candy, in hopes the prices will go down. I suppose that's possible. I am sure some people will still buy candy, and the totals won't be as bad as they are predicted to be. My neighborhood has very few Trick or Treater's. My daughter and son in law always decorate for Halloween in a big way, and since they moved back a few years ago, we are always invited to go there. They have goodies and hot chocolate and cider, and we usually admire the Trick or Treater's from the comfort of a chair in the carport and snuggled in a coat and blankets if it's cold. It's fun watching the little kids get so excited. Hopefully by Halloween, my son will feel well enough to go to his sister's. He loves spending Halloween there.

Due to money problems Halloween in my neighborhood is kind of quiet this year.

I do hope your son gets to spend halloween at his sister's. Global economic problem really is hurting everybody.

I always see more adult Halloween parties than kids trick or treating these days. People like its just not very safe. To many school shootings and it is expensive. My question is why do they keep electing the wealthy to represent us.?

I’m definitely cutting down on eating it. Chocolate has rocketed in price and has become a luxury item. Call me a misery if you like, but I don’t like giving kids sweets, so no use coming to my door.

I posted about this a while back. With the economy the way it is and the price hike in sugar as well as chocolate over the past year, the logical excuse would be to give out chips, since they contain neither sugar nor chocolate. But many will just not turn their outdoor light on, which is an indication to the kids not to go there. We don't have the trunk or treat thing going on up here really. Personally, I am only doing up special bags for the twins, and most of the contents are packages of stickers, sure a few chocolate bars, but they love stickers and they will be big hit.

Although it is getting more popular here we don’t have any trick or treaters coming round our area.

the waiting till the last minute idea is smart, sale bins usually pop up by then anyway... i hope the prices drop for the little kids sake. Trunk or treat at churches sounds like a solid plan, no stress and lots of fun fr.
