Alrighty, now we’re back on track. i looked today, and it’s l.A.’s turn to go first. And, wow, what a song to chug into L.A. with!! Y’all are gonna love this one. Here’s today’s song.
#6: Midnight Flyer - Nat “King” Cole
Now here’s someone you never expected to hear rocking. Nat King Cole is your crooner, the “The Christmas Song” guy, from the 40s and 50s. And, yeah, this isn’t “Enter Sandman” when it comes to ROCK. But wow, that’s an unusual sound when you think of Cole.
Nah, this guy could sing anything. I always like to point out that he had a #1 country song in 1944 (it wasn’t so much the sound of the record as it was the way Billboard had the shafts combined in 1944). He was only 45 when he died, just before his appearance in the film [i]Cat Ballou/i] was released, so we’re left to wonder how he would have continued exploring newer sounds.
One thing is for certain, though: the music he gave us is timeless.
Midnight Flyer
Written by Mayme Watts and Robert Mosley
Recorded by Nat “King” Cole
Released as a single, 1959

Is this a prelude to chestnuts roasting over an open fire?

Oh no. I’d use that really cool version with Judy Garland and Mel Tormé singing it, anyway.

You can always count on him providing good music, no matter how new or old the program is.

Good song! The man was a legend. His daughter was pretty good, too!

He certainly could sing. I was happy to go see the house he was born in.

I enjoyed hearing this song. My Dad used to say “ That man can really sing!” And he was right!

Hubby and I both knew song and artist. Hubby thinks there's an Eagles version of this song as well.

No, that is a different song with the same title. The one the Eagles did was written by Paul Craft. However, bonus points to hubby for recognizing the song title!

Dying at 45 of lung cancer was pretty awful.
