So I guess you’re wondering what I’m doing about my enlarged liver.
Nothing.
My gastroenterologist who is also a liver specialist can’t see me until August 2027. I asked for anybody in his office at all and all I could get was an April 2027 appointment with a nurse practitioner. That’s six months away..
I had messaged this information to my primary care doctor a week ago, asking her for a referral so that they could see me sooner, and she never answered me.
Then this morning I called two other gastroenterology practices in town and neither one of them would take me as a new patient without a referral from my primary care doctor who, as I said, isn’t responding to me.
So I made the April appointment and I guess I’ll just suffer until then or it’ll go away or I’ll die. Hopefully I’m just kidding about the dying thing, but I was making a dramatic point..
Now as coincidence would have it I do have a November 11 appointment with my primary care doctor for an annual physical so I guess I can bring it up again at that time but I don’t know why she’s ignoring me.
And yes, the liver is still enlarged and showing a bulge against my skin. And yes, I still have pain in that area.. but it’s not terrible pain and it’s not 24/7 so I will in fact survive.

Oh God, growing old is hell. Bad enough looking in the mirror but our bodies are wearing down and we have to deal with this stuff.

And all of these doctors look at us like, “don’t you know you’re just old and falling apart?”

@LooeyVille The thing is Loo you really aren't that old. Several of us are older than you are...with fewer health issues.I told you about the 89 year lady I know..who doesn't take any pills..but uses garlic..Pretty dang healthy for her age

Ditch the mirror, and just put up a photo of your younger self.

Don't you think you should get a new primary care doc..who doesn't ignore you, and would give you a referral to a gastrentestogist who would see you?I would be mighty uncomfortable with that situation. If I couldn't get one, I would go to the ER, but that's me

@FourWalls It really isn't that way at some health clinics. Oak Street Health might be one to look into for instance. Other community clinics are frequently faster..at least here. If it was me I would just go to the ER.

The problem with that is, she would have to find a new doctor, then she would probably have to wait 8 to 10 months to see the new doctor.

It has crossed my mind. I just started seeing her last August so I’ve only seen her four times and up until these last two visits she’s been great. I don’t know what has changed.

More and more I am discovering that we have to be our own advocate. It’s sad but oh, so true. Don’t give up looking for the help you need. If you need to go to the ER, GO! Can you call some other cities to try to get in to someone who can get you in earlier?

Man, that’s just crazy. I’m glad you see the primary soon so you can talk about getting that referral. I mean, my liver has been trash for decades, but it never bulged. I never saw it pushing against my skin. That’s so unsettling. I’ll be praying you get something sooner.

They should be investigating the root cause. There are many reasons your liver is enlarged. It could be your medication and the doctors are causing it. I’m not suggesting stopping your meds, but those prescribing them should be more interested. What’s the world coming to?

Maybe get a second opinion elsewhere? or have to complain about them for making their patient be on the waiting list. It's also a similar situation here that it's like the patients are the ones compromise and you cannot do anything about it because these health professionals think they are high and mighty. Hope these practices are be reprimanded because peoples health is going to be at risk. Hope you feel better soon. and hope you get the treatment you need.
