The Tale of the Disappearing CPAP

So you might remember the day we left for our cruise vacation, the Dallas airport lost my dad’s CPAP machine. He had intended to take it as a carry on so it wasn’t even tagged (although he put his name on the case). They just picked up the suitcase along with his CPAP, and sent it on his way. He objected, and their response was that it’s too late now. Not surprisingly, it didn’t make it to Virginia, and though the customer service lady really put in effort, she couldn’t track it down. Cut to our arrival back in Dallas 8 or 9 days later. It had not been turned in, and they, unlike the other airport were not helpful. I talked to my dad today, and the airport said they won’t reimburse him. A lady in our church however has a barely used CPAP she gave him, and he’s going to get it recalibrated and use it. There was no way I was going to try to persuade him otherwise. He will fight to get his wife what she needs, his daughters, or his friends. But when it comes to him, he takes the loss and keeps it moving. It’s disappointing, but at least he has one

I think that "legally" they are obliged to reimburse your father. They lost his CPAP and they are responsible. Send an email to IATA, I am sure they will take care of this.

I’m going to try to get Diana to pursue it. She just might do it.

@AmbiePam - I made a claim with IATA years ago because our luggage arrived 5 days after we reached our destination. They had to pay us for all the things we needed to buy because of the delay.

Wow I am sorry to hear that the Dallas airport was not helpful, and that they won't reimburse him. Seems to me like they should! That is good that someone offered him a barely used one and he can do that to be able to use it.

The one they misplaced cost $1,000, so he’s grateful this lady had an extra. Of course, his health insurance had covered a lot of that, but they’re, of course, not going to pay for a new one, which is understandable. It is totally the fault of the airport.

@AmbiePam Wow, that is an expensive one! That's good insurance did cover a lot of it. They should still give some back, even if not the full amount, even though it is their fault.

Omg! That was so incompetent of them to have lost it. They should compensate him because it's their own negligence.

I’m glad he has one, but he should strive to get HIS back or be compensated for it.

I really wish he would. I save my breath now because I know he won’t listen to me. I’m hoping Diana might change his mind, but I doubt it.

I can understand fighting for other people but not fighting for oneself. I wish he would fight harder for it thought. Those thinfgs are expensive and he was put at risk becuase of thier carelessness.

I’m going to try to get Diana to pursue it herself. She tends to follow through in these things, just like my mom did.

@AmbiePam I think that’s a mom thing I’m the one that has to do all that sort of thing around here.

I am glad he got another CPAP machine. They will probably not find his.
