Go Away - "Fly Away"

We’ve just three songs left before Go Away goes away. Forever. (The “forever” sounds better if you read it in the voice of Squints from The Sandlot.) Anyway, time for some classic 90’s funk rock, courtesy of the charismatic Lenny Kravitz. “Fly Away” is a single from Kravitz’ 1998 album, 5. The song performed quite admirably, reaching #12 on the all-important Billboard Hot 100, but there’s more to it than that. Check this out: “Fly Away” reached the Top 20 in 14 countries overall (#1 in Iceland and the U.K.) So yeah, a big hit for Lenny. And it all came about because he was testing an amp and liked what he was playing. The thing is, Kravitz had already turned 5 in to Virgin Records, so he first considered releasing “Fly Away” as a B-Side. A friend convinced him that the tune should be on the album, resulting in Kravitz contacting the record company about adding it. Their reluctance changed once they listened to the track. I imagine that cartoon dollar signs appeared in their eyes as they listened. Link is to the official promotional video:
