Do you remember when you used to send for something by mail order, and then you just waited for it to arrive? And then it did, with no fuss? I am sick of the endless updates. Thankfully I rarely shop online but a few days ago I did order a special attachment for my sewing machine. Not the kind of thing I could just buy anywhere so I didn’t have a lot of choice. It was sent with the courier company, Evri. Since then I have received more than a dozen email updates telling me: Evri has received the order They are waiting for the package They have received the package at the depot They have sorted the package They have sent it to my local depot They have given it to the courier It is out for delivery It should be delivered on such-and-such day The delivery time will be between X:00 and Y:00 The delivery time has been updated The delivery time has changed The delivery has been delayed The delivery will be on the following day The delivery time will be between X:00 and Y:00 The package has been delivered Seriously, I don’t want all those updates! I just want the thing to arrive safely with no fuss. And I know it has arrived, I was here when the man dropped it on the doormat without ringing the bell, I saw him! I do wonder whether all these unnecessary messages are contributing to the need for enormous data centres, full of virtual updates that no-one wants and everyone ignores and can’t be bothered to delete. I do a lot of online shopping and although some of those messages are needless 1 think I do want to know is the time frame of my deliveries, I need to keep Roscoe indoors when people come by.

Yes I can see that the time would be useful for that.

the doormat bit got me, you saw him drop it and still got an email saying it was delivered... lol. nobody needs a dozen pings for one sewing attachment, that's just bonkers.

That many? No way. I expect two or three, and even then, I’d rather just check the site instead of having them all emailed to me.

We in the US, they do not care enough to do that here. I am actually getting kind of sick of all the software updates. There is so many, still do not see a change. Its better trust us. No its not better because all these updates slow down my computer.

Most aren't necessary at all. It's all getting ridiculous.

These messages drive me absolutely barmy ….just send a tracking number and I will log in to a thousand steps of my orders journey if I want to ….but probably , I want you to say my order has been dispatched ….then I know it’s on its way and I shall expect it to arrive …
