Can They Be Friends?

The cat apparently thinks the raccoon is just an overgrown cat and wants to be friends.
He was willing to share his food
And in the video you could see them sniffing each other’s butts.
The cat doesn’t realize that the raccoon could give him rabies or kill him
But maybe they’ll become friends

Stranger things have happened...but I probably wouldn't let my cat fraternize

My dogs made friends with squirrels, and that always made me nervous. A raccoon would really make me hesitate. Of course, if it were rabid, I’d imagine it would have attacked right off.
The videos of cats and raccoons making friends, and I’ve only seen maybe three, sure are cute though. Especially when the raccoons use their “hands” to pick up the food and run away on their back legs.

We don’t have raccoons so I don’t know anything about them.

I am surprised the raccoon let the cat that near. They are defensive vicious creatures.

It could happen that the raccoon and the cat can become friends.

About 15 years ago or so, I lived in the country. When I moved in the barn had several very wild cats, pretty much feral. One night there was a huge fight between one of the tomcats and a raccoon. I ran outside but it was too late. The cat didn’t survive, it wasn’t pretty. I always worry about outside kitties defending themselves against raccoons.
