On Tuesday we attended the Melbourne Cup luncheon in our clubhouse. There was free champagne on arrival and a meal served after the running of the race which we watched on the big TV screens. The race was run in Melbourne at 3pm which was midday for us. We could buy tickets on ‘sweeps’ where you take potluck on the horse you’re given, some raffles and a few other prizes. The photo shows some of the ladies with their fancy hats. Most wore fascinators. I made my own, covering my sunhat with a red scarf and adding a red lower and a plastic lei which I’ve kept for years and years. I’m glad I got another use from it. Having said all that, I’m sure you can pick me out.
